Windy-night howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.

Cold winds today on the tame prairie, even with the more moderate and wonderful temps. But the cold is moving in again.

Okay, Valentine's Day is coming up fast and furious, alright. All the nightclubs and restaurants inside the Pleasure Club complex are putting the final touches on what they're offering in the way of celebration, and putting out the word. Not to mention, the Pleasure Club will be filled to the brim with those living out their Valentine's day erotic fantasies.

Once again, here's a continuation of Sheriff Roy and his bobcat beauty, Xanya's love story. Roy is wondering at himself for asking Xanya to the Saturday Night Barn Dance... however, there's another kind of trouble heading his way.

~~~~~~
Like he had a damn choice...
Once he stepped outside the diner, Roy clamped his Stetson on his head in a manner that rarely happened. Only when he was agitated. Well, he was damn well lustfully agitated, alright.
Winter's frigid wind slapped him in the face. But he barely noticed the cold, only taking note of the icy stinging snowflakes.
Yeah, head butting what? What was he doing asking Xanya to Saturday's barn dance?
Like he had a damn choice. It was either court the young beauty, or fall prey to their carnal chemistry for each other.
Or scale the highest nearby mountain as his ram self, and stay there. Until his testosterone-fueled ardor cooled down.
Roy harumphed under his breath as he stomped through the building snow toward his truck—a souped-up, bullet proof Ram pickup. Oh hell yeah, he'd tinkered with the engine until it was a roaring beast. He could chase down and charge the bad guys. When needed.
Well hell, if was going a'courtin', he'd better figure out his strategy, and get his good clothes out. Take inventory and buy whatever else he needed. Not like he wanted an eight-second bull ride with Xanya, or any woman for that matter. Roy preferred the full bloomin' that only happened with a long-term affair.
His sexual pleasure hit the mountaintop when he truly got know a woman, both in bed and out. That was most satisfyin' as he'd discovered over the years.
Roy climbed in his truck, and was about to turn the ignition key when Marry Lou hailed him. She most definitely looked like a wild-eyed mare as she waved her arms, then trotted toward him—marking darn good time in the snow.
Roy motioned with his head for her get inside, then quickly leaned over opening the passenger door. "What's up, Mary Lou?" he asked, then rumbled the truck to life.
In seconds, heat blasted them, and Roy positioned himself, facing her. "Everything okay at your store?" he asked when she didn't immediately answer.
Given her shoulders were hunched, her hands stuffed in the pockets of her parka, Roy waited. She'd speak her piece. He knew that, given his years of dealing with folks
"The store is fine. Doin' a good business...thanks for your order last week." Mary Lou drew in a large breath, and huffed it out. "I overhead somethin', Sheriff."
She twisted toward him. Anxiousness strained her features, and she breathed hard like a frightened horse.  Given Mary Lou was an equine shifter that hardly surprised him.
"What is it?" Concern knitted Roy's brow. "You know you can trust me, Mary Lou."
"I know...I know." She gave him a weak grin, and he saw the resolve in her eyes. "I was out behind the store. About six last evening. Carrying out some trash. Just as I was turnin' the corner, I caught a glimpse of a long black car parked behind that giant bin of mine. The snow isn't that deep there.
"You know, Sheriff, nobody owns a car like that 'round here." Mary Lou rushed her words."It was one of those government CIA looking cars with the blacked out windows."
"Did they threaten you?" Roy demanded, ready to lock and load.
"Nope. I plastered myself against the wall. Didn't even peek around. But I heard the door open, and a couple of 'em got out. Think they were taking a smoke break 'cause I smelled those cigarettes soon enough. Anyway..."
"Anyway," Roy prompted. His gut churned, on full alert.
"They started talkin' about you, Sheriff. Said your name. Said they had the snitches in place at the jailhouse, and at your office—and were waitin' to find out your routine.
Then..." Mary Lou's entire body jerked. Her eyes widened to saucers as she gazed at him square on.
"One of 'em said he couldn't wait...wait until you were a grease skid he could run over."
"You sure about that, Mary Lou?" Roy asked in his patient-with-the-witness voice.
"Yes, Roy, I'm sure." Mary Lou looked away. "I won't ever forget that callous laughter...after he said it."
In the following silence, Roy rubbed his chin, thinkin'. "Anything else you can remember?"
"No license tags on the car." Mary Lou swivelled her gaze to him again. "When I heard the car driving away, I got my gumption up, and peeked around the corner."  She stared down at her knotted hands. "We don't have license plates around here. In town. But these bastards were just passin' through."
"Yeah, right. Do you know if anyone else saw that car? Or had an encounter with the men inside?"
"I don't think so. I've asked at the coffee shop. 'Course, I left a message for Dante. He got back to me, so he has all the details."
"Ah," Roy gave a nod, "that's why Dante messaged me earlier. I'm talkin' with him in a couple of hours."
"I figured Dante would track you down. But since I saw you...now you have it from the horse shifter's mouth." Mary Lou cracked a smile.
"Thanks. Glad you talked to me about this, Mary Lou. How about I take you wherever you're goin'?"
"Just on my way back. Had to take one of the store's trucks in for repair. Lorenz didn't have anyone available to drive me back."
Roy eased out of the parking slot. "I hear Lorenz is one heckuva mechanic."
"No complaints. Only praise, so far. Stephanos...he has the motorcycle repair shop in town...well, he recommended Lorenz to Dante. Seems the two were biker buds in the past. We certainly do need good mechanics here."
"Yep, we do. Town is growin' fast. Good to see that happen." Roy turned off on the country road that led to the Moonrise Livestock and Pet Center, Mary Lou's business, which was about a half mile from the center of town.
The large remodeled barn had been quickly outfitted by Dante's building team, given Mary Lou wanted out of Talbot Peak fast as possible.
"It is good to see us growin'." Mary Lou spoke with enthusiasm. "You are gonna watch your butt. Right, Sheriff?"
"Sure thing, ma'am." Roy pulled up to the front door of the Livestock Center. "You're okay, right? And you're certain those men didn't know you were listenin'."
"They gave no sign they knew. Acted cool as frozen cucumbers. But I did have my pistol out and ready."
"Good girl."
"Later, Sheriff. Take care." Mary Lou shoved open the door, and jumped out.
Once she'd entered her store, Roy headed toward his two nephew's ranch, where he'd been stayin' for the past couple of days. As he slowly traveled over the snowy highway, he replayed Mary Lou's words tryin' to make sense out of what she'd heard, and seen.
Damn right, he had enemies, being a Sheriff, and all. But dang, this was likely a cointelpro operation of some kind, or worse, a takedown. Thing was, what for? Truth was he had several irons in the fire that could cause the feds, the alphabet agencies, to have their tighty-whities in big ole wad.
Within the past several weeks, he'd refused fed agents access to his county seven times. Most of the requests had been for petty drug offenses, which had already been handled to Roy's satisfaction.
What had him seriously pondering, though. Over the years, he'd had to be ridge-walking careful to keep his shifter side secret. If his cover had been blown...well, he might be retirin' and moving permanently to Moonrise Lake.
Not a bad thing. At this point, though, there were good men and women in his department, one of whom would likely be elected as the next county sheriff.
All the way to the ranch, his rearview mirror got a good workout, but nothin' outta the ordinary followed him, flew above, or threatened to waylay him. Being a ram shifter, Roy knew when an enemy hunted him.
His animal sixth-sense had always been reliable as the sun comin' up in the morning.
Roy frowned, thinkin' about Xanya. Dammit, now what? How could he put her in the middle of such a potentially dangerous situation?
'Course, he hadn't talked with Dante yet. Likely, the alpha wolf already had serious intel on who, and why, someone wanted to turn him into a grease skid...that is, instead of capturing his ass, and letting the mad scientists experiment on him, then dissect him.
On second thought about the dang alluring Xanya—who refused to leave his thoughts—well yeah, Dante knew about feline-shifter women. The blond bombshell cat woman, Kitty, was his mate.
Speaking of the real intel he needed. How to court a cat woman.
If anyone knew, Dante did. Roy grinned.
"What are you gonna do about that man?"
Wednesday howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.
Okay, warmer temps on the tame prairie for right now, at least. And even sunny skies today.
So, finally got this week's flash scene written. It's a continuation of Sheriff Roy and his bobcat beauty, Xanya's love story. They do have a definite 'thang' for each other, alright. Their animal-shifter chemistry has been perfuming the diner.
Okay, this flash is from Xanya's POV.
~~~~~~

"What are you gonna do about that man?"

Xanya bustled back from the table of four she'd just served with breakfast platters fit for felines. They were Siberian Tigers, and rumor had it the four—two men, two women—were long lost relatives of Serghei, a WFF mountain of a man, who was an assassin working for Zhere Ghan, leader of the Tiger Yakuza.

Zhere Ghan's luxurious, isolated compound was located deep in a rock-infested, forested area, and his ninja soldiers patrolled the surrounding area in concert with Dante's perimeter patrols of Wolf Peak Territory. No one doubted the Ghan's criminal brand of ruthlessness. Yet, of late the elder tiger shifter seemed content to rule his empire, and let sleeping wolves and dogs lie.

As Xanya understood it, two years past Zhere Ghan had allied himself with Dante against a greater enemy, the Ophylus, a secret, octopus-tentacle organization devoted to exterminating every last shifter on planet Earth.

"What are you gonna do about that man?" Jess asked, interrupting Xanya's thoughts. She gave a nod toward Sheriff Roy.

Xanya couldn't help it. Despite her resolve, she glanced over her shoulder as Roy stood. He offered his handshake to the sheriff and deputy candidates who were about ready to depart.

Holy heat wave, he towered above most of the other male shifters. Sine she'd already collected their empty plates, and Dante had taken care of the bill beforehand...well, there'd been no need to return to the table.

Besides, Xanya decided it would be a wise move on her part to ignore Roy's presence. So she'd concentrated on doing her waitress thing.

Not that she didn't have seduction plans for later. Yeah, she always had those plans brewing for Sheriff Roy.

Yowls of desire! Oh, to sinuously wind around his handsome, larger-than-life frame as woman, yet like the cat she was.

Before Xanya knew it, several pants burst from between her lips. Getting control of herself, she flashed Jess a smile. "What do you think I should do about him?"

"Hunt him down, honey. Lick that big cowboy body of his... and—"

"Jess, got a problem back here," one of the other waitresses called from the kitchen.

"Right there," Jess hollered back. "Always something, isn't there?" Giving Xanya a wink, Jess spun toward the kitchen.

Determined to keep her distance from Mr. Tall, Broad-shouldered, Ride-Into-the-Sunset Handsome, Xanya moved toward the beverage station for a glass of cream-rich milk. Between customers, she was taking a much-needed a breather. Besides, Jess encouraged them to take breaks whenever possible.

Savoring, Xanya took a long swallow of farm-fresh milk. Oh yeah yowlsa, wouldn't she love to ride off into the sunset with Sheriff ram-man ... yep, perched in front of him atop the saddle... cuddled inside his big strong arms...

Xanya nearly whipped around, hearing Roy's deliberate yet light tread behind her. Somehow, she managed to force herself to remain still, even as every fiber of her stilled, stiffened with awareness of him. Even her inner bobcat ruff stood on end.

"Miss Xanya." His voice boomed inside her. Yet, he'd spoken in that quiet, deep way of his.

She turned toward him, alive, explosively alive in every little tiny cell of her. Clutching the milk glass way too tight, Xanya looked up and up, finally meeting his gaze—meeting dark eyes with banked fires just for her.

He'd removed his Stetson, and his thick, sandy brown hair had sprung to life. The golden-tipped curls on his neck tantalized her fingers. They tingled, itched to stroke through those curls.

To distract herself, Xanya twisted enough to set her glass down. "Roy..." she began. Good gosh, she sounded breathless.

"Miss Xanya, would you care to accompany me to the Saturday night dance?"

"Yes," flew from her lips before he'd finished speaking.

"If you'll give me your address I'll arrive for you. Like a gentleman should." He paused, his forehead knitting for a moment. "Unless you'd prefer to meet somewhere else."

Xanya fumbled in her pocket for one of her portrait-artist business cards. "Here...here's my studio address. I live below." A rush of breath escaped. Finding her voice again after their fingers brushed, she continued speaking. "I...what time, handsome?"

"Dance begins at eight, Miss Xanya. How about seven, and we'll get a bite to eat. Your choice of restaurant."

Xanya had to smile. "Not much choice yet. Around here." She leaned back a bit, her posture becoming flirtatious.

"No." He cracked a small smile. "Town's still growing. I'd suggest dining at one of the Pleasure Club's establishments. But the tunnel isn't finished."

"No, it's not." Xanya gave her hair a shake, flipping the ponytail she'd tied back for work. "How about O'Malley's Gin Joint? I hear his place has steaks and fries to die for."

"O'Malley's it is, Miss Xanya. Been there a few times since Keirnan moved the Gin Joint outta TP. Hope you don't mind some of the rough characters that dine there regular."

"I have a big handsome sheriff to protect me," Xanya crooned, wishing like all get out she could run her fingers down his large, large chest. She clenched her hands into balls. "Have a favorite color...Sheriff?"

"Color?" Confusion glinted his eyes.

"Mmm." Xanya cleared her throat, hoping to lessen her sultry tone. "The color of my dress."

His gaze penetrated for an instant. "Match the color of your eyes. But truth to tell, Miss Xanya, whatever you wear will suit me...more than fine."

Slow and easy, Xanya let her smile take over. "Whatever you say, Roy. See you at seven. On Saturday. I'd better...better get back to work."

"Jess'll take a frying pan to me if I keep you away from servin' the customers." He spoke in a teasing tone. After sweeping his Stetson back on, Roy gave a tip of his hat to her. "Seven, Miss Xanya. I'll be dreamin' about it."

With that, he spun on his heel, and sauntered toward the door, his long stride making short work of the distance. Damn, and fan herself, his cowboy ass was just too fine for words. Xanya stared, her inner cat yowling appreciation—her cat tail slashing back and forth.

Yep, she was going to seductress-hunt him down, and lick her long, tall, naked, hard-muscled sheriff, until he begged to be hers. Xanya trembled all over for an instant, clinging to the edge of the counter.

Gathering herself, she pushed away. Oops! Xanya caught a glimpse of her nipples. Even through her bra, they stood large and proud, and made obvious points in the crisp fabric of her uniform.

Celebrating the Full Wolf Moon

Of course, this is a major happening in Wolf Peak Territory. Not only will there be much howling and yowling in the snowy great outdoors beneath the Great Luminous Orb, known as the Full Moon... but there are also little celebrations for the shifter-supernatural children during the day... and later, the adults play. All of the nightclubs and eateries inside the Interspecious Pleasure Club are having a variety of fun howling and yowling Full Moon events, depending on your fondest desire ... that is, from disco dancing to cowboy saloon drinking, gambling, and dancing ... to the elegance of the Midnight Stardust Supperclub, and it's swing band. Oh, and there's the Bohemian Club, owned and run by the silver god wolves family... they cater to women only... or maybe you want your own private pleasure room where your sexiest fantasy comes true.

...seduced by a wildcat shifter...

Icy-cold howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.

Yep, frigid one-degree temps hit my tame prairie a couple of days ago.  Fortunately, we're in the 20s now. On my trek back from the mailbox, I caught a glimpse of the young herd of deer who have been hanging around. And this morning, one of the young golden eagles swooped from a nearby tree, the moment I gazed out my window.

Again, it's taken me the entire day—with plenty of interruptions—to pen another  flash scene starring Sheriff Roy and the Bobcat Beauty. This scene is from Roy's point of view. Please enjoy.

btw, I haven't been able to find a suitable pic for Sheriff Roy. So John Wayne will have to do. ~grins~

~~~~~~
...seduced by a wildcat shifter...
Yep, a thunderbolt shot through his cock.
Hell.
Nothing like being seduced by a wildcat shifter, Roy decided, given his big head still functioned enough to decide anything. By Xanya's expression, he realized downright quick she hadn't meant to use that sultry tone.
Yeah, the innuendo, but not that sexy, sexy voice.
Roy cleared his throat, and repositioned himself so he could view her face easily. Her high cheekbones were stained with a red flush, only making her more beautiful to his eyes.
As a gentleman Roy wanted to help Xanya out. 'Though, he wasn't certain how.
Damn sure enough, everyone at the table fastened their gazes on him, waiting for his reaction. Avid interest, to say the least, brightened their eyes.
Yep, the air blanketed him, heavy as his ram coat in winter.
"Thanks, ma'am. I'll do the pourin'." Roy spoke in his most respectful voice.
"Of course...right, Sheriff. Be right back."
Xanya's voice had been shaky around the edges. But she'd managed a dignified retreat. To his mind, anyway.
His sheriff and deputy candidates still trained their gazes on him, every single one of them. And their mouths were straining to keep smiles from forming. Dammit, their interest hadn't lessened, not one darn whit.
Roy gazed right back, leaning forward, but not so his elbows hit the table. "Ma'am," he addressed the one lady, "fellas, any more questions?"
"You said three townhall meetings, all of them streamed on RiseTube at peak viewing times for those who can't attend." Luke, a wolf shifter, and weapons expert, intensely eyed Roy. "Has Dante set up a schedule?"
"Not yet, the community net system is a bit twitchy," Roy answered. "And we're still making certain everyone who wants to be online is. Protectin' the system is another matter."
Roy paused, unable to avoid seeing Xanya load a tray with glasses of milk. What the 'f'? Did he have to go live in a cave, become a damn hermit? So her curvy gorgeous assets didn't tempt the bejeezus out of him?
"Dante's cyber team assures me," he continued, "it won't be long before all the gov and hacker bugs are squashed. Permanent like."
"These cyber boots are made for stompin'." Eliza, the lady bear shifter, sang in an amused tone. A martial arts fighter, and constitutional lawyer, she'd given up her human-world practice, to join with their supernatural community.
"Once Moonrise Lake and Wolf Peak Territory has a bonafide sheriff," Rafe, the cougar shifter cowboy began, "are we reachin' out to the Oathkeepers and the CSPOA?"
"CSPOA?" Xanya cheery-voice questioned. She busied herself placing their glasses of milk before them.
Given no one else spoke up, and all eyes turned on him, Roy drawled, "Stands for Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers of America."
"Ever heard of Sheriff Mack?" Eliza asked. "He's human."
"Yes...now I know what you're talking about." Xanya made a show of setting his glass of milk and the chocolate syrup before him, but this time she concealed the seductress well enough. "Jess has mentioned him as a good role model for our sheriff. What do you think of him, Sheriff Roy?"
"A standup man who's fought the good fight, and has the people's best interests at heart." With a slow hand, he picked up the bottle of chocolate syrup, and swirled the dark liquid into his milk, as he'd always done when growing up.
Yep...Roy silently chuckled at himself...some habits were hard to break. 'Specially when Xanya's fragrance filled his nostrils, and her beauty corralled his gaze.
Dammit, anyone with a working shifter nose knew he was carnally perfumin' the air over Xanya—as she was for him. No hidin' it. 'Course, they weren't the only ones with desire-activated hormones. Thank the Good Lord.
And it was a darn good thing, Jess's hubby, Jackson Action, as he was known, had installed that industrial-sized air purifier.
"Everyone okay?" Xanya started clearing away the empty dishes as a chorus of 'okays' answered her. "Oh, and Jess said we've got gooseberry pie.".
"Slices all around?" Roy asked.
"A show of hands." Xanya looked around, taking count. With a last glance at him, she departed.
Those lovely eyes fired right inside him, sparking up his lust. Again.
Roy resisted squirming his dang butt on the chair. He'd never had that problem before. The woman was undoin' him.
"Right now," Roy spoke into the sudden silence, "Dante is explorin' whether to contact Sheriff Mack, given who we are. The CSPOA is a transparent organization, and we got our shifter secrets to hide."
"We surely do," Luke agreed. "Depending on who gets elected for sheriff... and those of us who are deputized..." he pulled in a breath, "what I'm sayin' is, Cody here is mostly human. He could make contact, and offer assistance outside of Wolf Peak. We'd learn the inside baseball on what's happening in the rest of the country."
"Yep. Not a bad idea." Roy nodded, thinking about the possibility of joining forces with the good-guy and gal sheriffs, and gatherin' intel. "We'll take it up with Dante. But first we gotta focus on gettin' everything straightened away here. And watchin' our behinds when it comes to Mayor Gilbert. I hear, from my sources, he and his Talbot Peak pals are still gunnin' for Dante and Daemon. They're claimin' to state law enforcement that they're being harassed."
"Harassed!" Eliza straightened as if she was about to jump out of her chair. Certainly flames leaped inside her dark eyes. "I know for a fact—friends still living in Talbot Peak—that's a bunch of absolute bunk."
"I know. I know." Roy held up his palm. "But they got some kind of vendetta goin'. I'm guessin' it's because so many have moved out of town."
"There's a glut of houses for sale," Cody piped up. "I was just down there, scoutin' it out, and talking with Dante's spy gal, getting the latest info for him. Nobody in Talbot Peak knows me, since I just arrived. I've known Dante for years," Cody explained when several of the others pointedly glanced at him. "When Dante left Talbot Peak to protect Kitty from his sire, he headed west. We met as bikers, and rode together until he headed off to Europe. But we stayed in contact all these years."
"That's the deal." Rafe picked up a fork, twirling it. "I was wonderin' why you two were so tight."
"That's the deal, Rafe, my cougar man." Cody trained his gaze on Roy. "Far as I was able to tell, bad blood is brewin'. The mayor and his pals are bad-mouthin' us. Any excuse will do, it seems. But they've got to watch their shifter hides too. I don't doubt they've made complaints to state law enforcement, to state agencies, against Dante. However, there's a little matter of actual proof...which they don't have."
"Yep, no proof." Roy set his darn tasty chocolate milk down. "Unless they decide to manufacture it.. That's my concern."
"Anything serious happens, it'll pop up on the state computer system," Eliza stated, her manner confident. "And we'll be able to expunge it right quick."
"Headin' trouble off at the pass. Always a good thing." Roy watched 'trouble' head toward them with a tray of sliced pie. 'Cause damn, he was in mucho trouble, wanting a woman probably half his age. Yep, more than he'd ever wanted a woman. His cock twitched mightily in agreement.
